Our Endurance Ride

Gold Country 50/30 Mile Endurance Ride

next date is

CANCELED!

Message from Joe Larkin, GCER President
It's with a heavy heart and great disappointment that we must cancel the GCER endurance ride scheduled for 7/10/10. Or in the words of our current GCER vice-president - the ride is canceled
As you have seen in earlier emails Jon Jue, resource officer Georgetown Ranger District El Dorado national forest (530)333-5550 email: jjue@fs.fed.us notified us 4 weeks before our ride that we must pay $4,230.53 - "Due to the estimates for Forest Service staff time being in excess of 50 hours for processing Gold Country Endurance Riders' permit application, the Forest Service is required to charge cost recovery fees for the processing the application." I sent numerous emails to Jon trying to negotiate, reduce or eliminate the fees for this year. Jon did reply back and said this fee would not go away. I looked the usfs cost recovery fee regulations (on the web) and I feel that we should not have to pay the fee. My emails to Jon concerning my interpretation of these regs (along with Jerry Scribner's input) have not been returned. In my last email tonight to Jon canceling the ride I asked him for a resolution for this fee issue and if he has a problem perhaps the regional/district personnel can assist.

AERC trails chairman (Michael Campbell) told me via email that this is the first time he has ever heard of cost recovery fees from usfs. I believe that Pam Baile has talked to the Sacramento Bee. Feel free to send your cards and letters to the local media, usfs, Tom McClintock (http://mcclintock.house.gov/), Diane Feinstein (http://feinstein.senate.gov/public/), Barbara Boxer (http://boxer.senate.gov/). So what are we going to do on 7/10/10 ?? Pete Occhialini suggested that we all camp at Dru Barner park on that date. Cindy has jumped on this too and suggested that we have a pot-luck on saturday night. We will use the same trail that the EDETF used for their fun ride and will have a both a 12 and 25 mile loop. This will NOT be a GCER event and will be open to everyone - tell your friends, the more the better. There will be no fees to join in for this camp-out with the exception of $8 per night camping and a fun time will be had by all. Since Dru Barner park will not have event there I think people (on their own) should camp, ride and have a nice pot-luck on Saturday night. Hope everyone can attend.
