Tevis Fun Ride - 7 May 2005

Turning onto California Street in Foresthill
The first switchback of many.

Dorothy Miller on her Tevis hopefull for this year - Elly, with husband Dennis on Elly's [nine year old] "baby", Andy, behind.

This was the first time Andy had been on singletrack for any length of time and he kept his nose tucked in Mama's butt like a good boy.

Practising with my sponge-on-a-string while persuading
Zini to stand still at one of the many creeks.
Wild flowers abound. The extra fluffiness of the grass gave you the impression that there was a berm to catch you falling off the edge... the impression, at least...
Rafters on the Middle Fork of the American River, far below.
Catching up with some other riders.

We rode almost the entire stretch on our own, only meeting the odd few groups of riders now and again.

Ruck-a-chucky rapids - yikes!
Pausing along the river road...
The road up to Francisco's
"There's no trail there!?"

The turning onto the singletrack trail that leads to Poverty Bar. Elly hadn't taken this turning before, so we thought we'd better practice it with her.

Overgrown start of the Poverty Bar trail.

Someone told me yesterday that a couple of months ago there was a large tree across the trail at the Poverty Bar end, making the last part impassable. Don't know if some kind soul with a chainsaw (or strong arms) has been down there and removed it, though.

Dennis impressing the crowds by tailing Andy up the last part of Driver's Flat at a trot.
All done, back at the trailer at the turnout on Foresthill Road.
